Committed to serving the poor, sick, uneducated and oppressed persons, especially women and children, we are the Sisters of Mercy Regional Community of Providence. Our community, which includes over 320 sisters and 81 associates, works to bring God's Mercy to Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts and areas of Central America. We are part of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. Our Direction Statement, which reflects the intent of our founder, Catherine McAuley, and the commitment of our Region and the other 24 Regions throughout the Americas, permeates our lives, our actions, our very being.

"Animated by the Gospel and Catherine McAuley's passion for the poor, we, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, are impelled to commit our lives and resources to act in solidarity with :

  • The economically poor of the world, especially women and children;
  • Women seeking fullness of life and equality in church and society;
  • One another as we embrace our multicultural and international reality."

To find out more information about other regional communities in the Americas visit the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy.
