         VOCATION: THE JOURNEY

Our sisters in church

If a woman is attracted to the Mercy way of life, she begins a journey to determine whether or not this call is from God. Assisted by the Vocation Minister, she begins her journey to religious life by learning more about the history and traditions of the Sisters of Mercy and by interacting with the Community.

Prior to actually entering the Community, the woman is involved in three phases of the Vocation discernment, which takes place over a period of about two years:

Inquiry - This phase is her initial exploration of the call to religious life as a Sister of Mercy.
Application - This phase intensifies the exploration of her call to religious life, deepens her understanding of the mission of the Sisters of Mercy and establishes a closer relationship between the Community and herself; this phase concludes with a welcoming ceremony.
Pre-Candidacy - This is the time between her acceptance into the Community and her actual welcoming Ceremony
