UNITED STATES
Founded over 150 years ago in Providence, our
community has spent the decades helping those in need in
Southeasten New England. Our areas of focus are education,
health care, caring for the homeless and our houses
of hospitality.
EDUCATION
Since
our beginning, education has been a central focus of our
Community. We minister in schools that are sponsored by
our Community and in other schools for students of all ages
across the nation.
|
|
|
We have also founded and/or serve in nonprofit agencies that address
literacy needs of dropouts, single parents, and immigrants plus
child enrichment programs, which benefit the family. |
 |
Located
in Cumberland, RI, near the Administrative Offices for the
Regional Community of Providence, Mercymount
Country Day School is an elemetary school owned and conducted
by the Community that is dedicated to the total education
of the child on all levels. |
|
| Founded
in 1874 by the Providence Regional Community, St
Mary Academy-Bay View serves female students from pre-kindergarten
through grade twelve. It offers a quality education, infused
with the compassionate ideals of Catherine McAuley as it prepares
young women for the challenges of the global community in
the 21st Century. |

concentrations in the arts, sciences, management, business
and |

HEALTH CARE
We provide quality health care at our nursing home, Mount
St. Rita Health Centre. Founded in 1971, as a nursing
home for the Sisters of Mercy Regional Community of Providence,
the Health Centre now provides a home for 98 residents, half
sisters and half lay people, in |
 |
|
Cumberland, Rhode Island. It offers health care in the Tradition
of Mercy and provides the best nursing services available
for its residents in an atmosphere of peacefulness, dignity
and hospitality. |
|
| Through
other agencies, we provide pastoral and health services to the sick
and those in rehabilitation. Many of our sisters who work independently
spend a good part of their week visiting those in hospitals or those
confined to their home due to an illness. |
 |
HOMELESS
Safeguarding peoples' belief in their own dignity and worth
is at the core of our ministries. Developed as a response
to the rapidly growing numbers of low-income, single parent
families that marked Providence, Rhode Island, during the
economic upheavals of the late 1980's, McAuley
Village, a |
transitional
housing facility; McAuley House, a soup kitchen; and
McAuley Community House, a living skills assistance
facility were founded by the Providence Regional Community.
The
aim of all three institutions is to provide for the social
and educational needs of low-income, at risk, families and
individuals in Providence.
We also administer and serve in other soup kitchens and shelters
in several other dioceses including Fall River in Massachusetts.

and quiet where individuals can relax and renew in the rolling
hills of Cumberland, Rhode Island. The Lodge contains a chapel,

 |
Ridge End in Westerly, Rhode Island is located on the southern
